Inside the Stephenville sanitary sewer line

Stephenville is known for many things but with all the attention in the sky recently we thought we’d be the black sheep as usual and bring your attention below ground. We spent the evening hours exploring the suprisingly large underground sanitary sewer system of Stephenville. We snuck into an entrance where they were adding onto the system and just jumped right in. The underground tunnels are pretty long and currently follow down Clinton St. and go underneath Washington St. I was actually able to see trucks passing over me about 8 feet above ground. You would never know that it was down there.

On our journey we quickly found that it was muddy, which was a messy predicament for me, since my shoe had a blowout a couple of weeks ago and leaks water through the bottom now. We travelled down the tunnels we came to a few 90 degree turns, and kept going. The tunnel adventure came to an abrubt end when we reached an 8 ft. drop. Although we could probably have made it just fine, I didn’t want to risk one of us not being able to get out safely. Or put us at risk of getting in trouble coming out of a manhole cover. I think we can go down there again with a rope ladder and a cordless drill and be able to scale the wall safely.
