Some cats can be quite adventuresome especially as the weather turns nicer outside. However, most do come home to eat and sleep. Either he is hunting and feeding himself or another family that is unaware that he has a home has been feeding him and perhaps keeping him in at night. It might help to put up adverts with his picture and name and perhaps someone will phone you to pick him up and bring him home.
